2015 LET Result - 55,000 New Professional Teachers for PH

The Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) and the Board for Professional Teachers have released the results of the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) on November 30, 2015 after 48 working days.

The country adds around 55,000 new professional teachers to its workforce with 21,461 elementary teachers out of 68,442 examinees (31.36% passing rate) and 34,010 secondary teachers out of 81,463 examinees (41.75%).

The Professional Regulatory Commission will start processing the Registration for the issuance of PRC ID cards and Certificate of Registration on December 7, 2015. As per DepEd guidelines, a teaching license is a mandatory requirement for a permanent position in Senior High School.

September 2015 LET Result

The recent Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) was held last September 27, 2015. As per PRC Resolution, the result of the LET Passers will be around 40 days after the last day of examination so, the release of the LET Result should be by the end of November 2015.

The LET is a board examination for Professional teachers conducted by the Professional Regulatory Commission which consists of two portions for Elementary teachers (General Education-40% and Professional Education-60%) and three parts for Secondary teachers (General Education-20%, Professional Education-40% and Specialization-40%).

To pass the LET, an examinee should have an average rating of 75% and should not have a grade lower than 50% in any of the components.

A PRC Teacher's license is mandatory for SHS teachers to be given a permanent position in public service. Stay tuned for the latest LET Results which will be released soon.

Qualification Standards for SHS Teachers

My NBI Clearance Renewal Experience

After enjoying the improved NBI clearance payment procedure (read here), I noticed a common pattern in the releasing of NBI certificates.

While waiting for my name to be called after I made a payment at the cashier, I noticed that most applicants were leaving without their NBI certificates. Glancing at the computer monitors of NBI personnel, I saw the word "HIT" for every applicant that they process.

Before the launch of NBI's online application, when I applied for a clearance about two years ago, I got a "HIT" too. Meaning, I have a namesake with a record, probably, a criminal offense so I had to wait for a week before I got my clearance printed.

But this time around, I was hoping that it has already been settled so I can get my clearance right away. After my photo and finger print were taken, lo and behold, the monitor flashed --

I got a "HIT" again! Just like everyone else before me, I was only given a receipt stamped with a date a week later. I waited for my companion and the same thing happened. We were heartbroken. I was expecting too much but I didn't get my clearance printed on the same day.

So it lead me to think-- is there anyone who applied for a clearance at a satellite office and got their NBI clearance printed right away? Or is it purely hype that NBI clearances can be secured within minutes?

DepEd SHS Teacher Application Requirements

The Omnibus Certification is a mandatory requirement which to be attached together with the pertinent application documents. This certificate should be legalized by a notary public and typically ranges between 100-200 Php at a local notary public or Municipal's Public Attorney's Office.

A DepEd Memorandum has recently been issued requiring Regional Offices to file the summary of qualifications of Senior High school teacher-applicants who submitted their letters of intent last October 30, 2015.

It also includes the preliminary information regarding the qualification standards of SHS teachers as well as the corresponding salary grade.

DepEd Teacher Deployment for SHS

In one of the DepEd seminars about the ongoing Senior High School preparations, the time frame for the selection, recruitment and deployment of teachers for Senior High School was highlighted in the presentation.

Last October 30, 2015 was the deadline for submission of the Letter of Intent for SHS Teachers, however DepEd clarifies, in its latest SHS Bulletin, that District Offices are still accepting documentary requirements for teacher-applicants.

As indicated in the template, the Selection Process for SHS Teachers will be from November 2015 to January 2016 while Teacher Deployment to their respective Senior High School assignments will be by May 2016.

Classroom Projector Teacher's Buying Guide

With the advancement of technology and decreasing attention span of students, teachers need to employ various methods to keep learners focused inside the classroom. Gone are the days of Manila paper and cartolina as most teachers nowadays use a common teaching tool of the Information Age - the classroom projector.

Almost every teacher would like to have their classrooms equipped with a projector ready for use anytime but with budget constraints, this teaching resource remains elusive for many schools. Also, with the proliferation of projector brands in the market, some teachers are having a hard time finding the right combination of price and product specification.

Most popular brands like Epson, BenQ or Acer would meet the typical classroom requirement but unfortunately they are way too expensive. Some LED projectors that are being offered online range below 5000 pesos but it's like throwing away money as they would be worthless in a classroom setting especially those with 40-800 lumens (read: stay away!).

Sad to say, many teachers have fallen prey to these offers that really don't match their needs.

The product list below was the result of a teacher's hunt for an affordable but quality classroom projector. The major considerations are the following:

Lumens (at least 2000, the higher the better)
Contrast (2000:1 or 3000:1, the higher the better)
Resolution (1280 x 800 Pixels, Full HD the better)
Reliability (lamp life rating 20000 hours or higher)
Ports & Settings Control (USB, TV Tuner, VGA, HDMI, Keystone, etc.)
and of course, Pricing (below 10,000 Pesos is a steal!)
