DepEd Still Accepting Requirements for SHS Teachers

dedicated teacher

In its previous Senior High School bulletin, DepEd marks October 30, 2015 as the deadline for the submission of letter of intents of teachers in Senior High School. Through this, the agency will have a pool of applicants which will be ready for immediate deployment once the teaching items are created coming from the National government.

DepEd Calls for Senior High School Teachers

Deped clarifies in its most recent bulletin that the deadline was set for the expression of intent and that teachers may still submit pertinent papers to their respective district offices after October 30, 2015.

The content of the bulletin is as follows:

This is to clarify that the October 30, 2015 deadline set in the “Call for Expressions of Intent for Senior High School Teaching Positions for School Year (SY) 2016-2017” is for the expressions of intent and NOT the submission of application requirements.

To reiterate, the purpose of the call was to have a preliminary pool. Once the teaching positions are created, schools division offices (SDOs) shall publish vacancies for a period of ten (10) days in compliance with Republic Act No. 7041 (Publication Law). Interested applicants may continue submitting documentary requirements to their respective local DepEd division offices. The hiring guidelines containing the evaluation criteria and selection process will be issued soon.

Easiest Way to Pay for NBI Clearance Application

The National Bureau of Investigation, with its online application feature, states that it has significantly reduced the time to secure a clearance. It may be true, however, after registering to the NBI website and filling out the online application form, it would seem that the applicant would only be left with four (4) check-out options:
  1. Over the Counter
  2. Online banking
  3. Mobile payment
  4. Bayad Center
nbi payment checkout options
Unfortunately, all of these payment methods are going to cost you extra money.

Here's a tip: To save a few pesos as well as to save precious time of having to go to third-party payment processors, one only has to read the website instructions carefully.

nbi registration reminder unpaid reference number may be paid at nbi cashier
Apparently, there's a fifth option: Paying over-the-counter at the NBI cashier!

So this is what I did. I just jot down the REFERENCE NUMBER of the unpaid application form and went to one of the bureau's satellite offices. At the site, I proceeded immediately to the cashier, bypassing several bystanders (read: fixers) who nag me if I'm applying for an NBI clearance.

The cashier accepted the reference number as well as my payment and then instructed me to just wait for my name to be called for the next step of the application process. The payment was a breeze!

However, waiting for the photo and fingerprint capture was another story. Read it here.

Omnibus Certification of Authenticity and Veracity of Documents

One of the perennial questions of teacher-applicants is where to get an Omnibus Certification of Authenticity of Documents. Basically, this document is an affirmation coming from the applicant that all the submitted papers are legitimate and true. This certification is usually attached together with all the pertinent papers in a legal folder.

Many formats of the Omnibus Certification can be downloaded from the internet, however, the most important part of this certificate is its being legalized by a notary public. This service is typically priced between 100-200 Php at a local notary public or Municipal's Public Attorney's Office.

How to Compute GWA Scholastic Rating (Excel Template)

calculate gwa
One of the requirements in applying as a DepEd teacher is the General Weighted Average (GWA) indicated in the Official Transcript of Records. Unfortunately, not all universities and colleges include it in the TOR. Hence, additional computation would be necessary.

Deped Teacher Ranking Process

Some DepEd District Offices compute the GWA themselves, while others ask teacher-applicants to return to their respective colleges and have the GWA computed by the school registrar.

To save some time, one can compute the GWA using this formula:

1. Multiply the subject grade by the corresponding credit units.
2. Add the total number of ratings in step 1.
3. Divide the sum of all the ratings to the total number of units earned.

Note: In some Transcript of Records, units enclosed in parentheses are not included in the computation of the GWA. (e.g. Music, PE, NSTP or CAT)

Below is a downloadable Excel template for the computation of GWA.
