Best Way to become a Seaman / Maritime Seafarer


Many Filipino students, undeniably, aspire to become a seaman or seafarer with the common perception that this career offers excellent pay and a chance to travel the world as part of the job description. For Senior High School students who are interested to become a seaman, the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) will hold its Annual Free Entrance Examination Examination on September 28, 2019 simultaneously in 32 Testing Centers nationwide. It offers maritime programs B.S. in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and B.S. degree in Marine Engineering. (BSMarE)

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Male or female, physically fit, natural born Filipino citizen
  • Single and never been married and has no children out of wedlock
  • Free from being accused or convicted of any crime against the law and the state
  • At least 17 years old and not more than 23 years old upon enrollment on August 01
  • Grade 12 student; College Level
  • At least 160 centimeters (5 ft. & 3 in.) for male and 155 centimeters (5 ft. & 1 in.) for female
  • BMI of 25
  • Good academic performance

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS:
  • 3 copies of recent 2x2 colored pictures
  • 2 self-addressed long white mailing envelopes with P40.00 worth of mailing stamp
  • Certification from School Principal that applicant is currently enrolled as Grade 12
  • Photocopy of Senior High School Diploma or Form 138/Photocopy of Diploma for College graduate, Photocopy of Registration form, if College level.
  • Photocopy of PSA Birth Certificate
  • CENOMAR- (Certificate of No Marriage)to be submitted upon enrollment as Probationary Midshipmen/women.) Baptismal and Hospital Birth Certificate are not honored
Applicants have 2 options to file the Application Form:
  • Personal – From October (right after the last Entrance Examination) to September (the following year) @ PMMA Zambales only
  • Mail – From October (right after the last Entrance Examination) to August 31 (the following year) only

WALK-IN APPLICANTS:

In its facebook page, the PMMA allows walk-in applicants to go straight to the testing center on the day of the examination on a first-come first-served basis.
