Free Tech Gifts for Teachers #NationalTeachersMonth

USB Laptop

One of the essential tools of teachers are their computers. From the creation of slideshow presentation of their lessons, printing of worksheets and certificates, up to the encoding of grades, reports and narratives, these gadgets have been the teachers' companion through thick and thin (paper works). Unfortunately, these little machines can also be crippled with viruses with continuous use hence, routine maintenance is needed to ensure optimal performance.

In line with the Teachers' Day celebration this October 5, Senior High School would like to present these free software / tricks, as a humble token, to fix common tech issues encountered by our dedicated teachers:

1. Fix Shortcut (USB) Virus with SmadAV
A common problem plaguing teachers' laptops is the "Shortcut virus"wherein files are hidden by this nasty but obsolete program. It is caused primarily by swapping of infected flash drives from colleagues and students. SMADAV is lightweight application that cleans USB disks at the moment it is inserted thus, reducing the risk of infection. Get the software here.

2. Clean Infected PC's with Malwarebytes
Most teachers laptops are terribly sluggish and often have pop ups when browsing online. These are tell-tale signs of being infected with malware. Malwarebytes is a popular software that can perform a deep scan to eliminate malware and viruses that other applications often miss. Get malwarebytes through this link.

3. Easy File Transfer with Shareit for PC
Many people are unaware that aside from its popular mobile version Shareit can also be used in a PC. In order to prevent the sharing of viruses due to flash drive swapping, install Shareit in your laptop via this link.

4. Download Videos from Youtube and other sites
For video presentations, Youtube videos from can be downloaded by simply adding "SS" to the video URL. (example: www.youtube.com/watch to www.SSyoutube.com/watch). You will then be directed to en-save.net website where you can easily download online videos in a single click.

Another trick is to use Mozilla firefox as your browser and install the Video DownloadHelper extension to make downloading online videos a breeze. Get the Mozilla add-on here.

5. Reduce Eye Strain with Flux
Teachers often stay up late at night with their preparation in front of their computers which causes eye strain and worse, disrupted sleep. Flux is a software that adjusts the brightness of the laptop's monitor in order to reduce the glare and help prevent eye fatigue. Download the software here.

6. Remove Unwanted Apps with Revo Uninstaller
Aside from viruses, having too many software can also slow down a laptop. To uninstall unused programs without leaving traces in your computer, you can use Revo Uninstaller to remove those applications that are not used and take up your computer's space. Get the software here.

With these simple tips, we hope that we can somehow ease the burden of teachers in performing their academic and clerical tasks. Feel free to comment for any more queries or suggestion regarding this post. Happy Teachers' Day!
